Civil and Structural Design for a Temporary Tenancy for CareFlight
Client :
Archerfield Airport Corporation
Project Value :
Project Overview :

Archerfield Airport Corporation gained a new tenant for an existing warehouse/shed that was previously used to construct bridge girders.

The warehouse is being converted into a hangar which requires modifications to hardstand areas and structural elements of the building to facilitate a larger opening for aircraft to park.

JJR Involvement :

The scope of works included provided preliminary advice on flood levels, hard stand layouts, earthworks, bunding for fuel spills and structural modifications to the building.

Detailed design was undertaken for the hangar door modifications, including:

  • Calculation of operating wind due to helicopter downwash in accordance with JJR’s helicopter downwash model (which has been developed based on engineering principles);
  • Design check of the proposed top and bottom guide tracks and associated connections:
    • Top carriage and its connections to the door frame and the guide track.
    • Top track guide members and their connection to the brackets.
    • Bottom track guide members and their connection to the connecting plate.
    • Bottom carriage and its connections to the door frame and the guide track.
  • Design check of the proposed brackets and fixing bolts to the precast concrete panels:
    • Proposed bracket members and their connections.
    • Proposed Hilti chemset bolts and concrete failure around the bolts.
  • Design check of the proposed door frame to withstand the downwash force; and
  • Cross reference check of the door frame and proposed guide tracks with the building drawings.
