Project Overview Brown Contractors (BC) engaged JJR to undertake the design of the Palmer Bridge replacement project for Southern Downs Regional Council. The bridge was a three-span timber bridge of length 25m with carriageway width of 5.5m across the bridge.
JJR Involvement JJR’s expert engineers prepared Final Design drawings for the replacement of the Palmer Bridge, which included a desktop review of all existing information including detailed review of geotechnical and asset information, as well as a site inspection prior to preparation of Final Design drawings in accordance with the following standards and guidelines:

  • AS 1170 Structural design actions;
  • AS 3845-1999 Road safety barrier system;
  • AS 5100-2017;
  • AS 4100;
  • AS 3600;
  • AS 4678 Earth retaining structures;
  • Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) standards and technical specifications including MRTS 1400-1500 series;
  • TMR Design Criteria for Bridges and other Structures (February 2018);
  • TMR Road Planning and Design Manual (2nd edition);
  • TMR Roads Pavement Design Supplement;
  • TMR Bridge Design Manual;
  • TMR Supplement to Austroads Guide to Road Design;
  • TMR Supplement to Austroads Guide to Bridge Technology;
  • Austroads Guide to Road Design Practice;
  • Austroads Guide to Bridge Technology;
  • Austroads Waterway Design: A guide to the Hydraulic Design of Bridges, Culverts and Floodway’s (1994); and
  • Any other relevant standards, specifications and design guidelines.
