Project Overview Whitehorse City Council (Council) engaged JJR to undertake a Level 3 bridge inspection and structural assessment for Abbey Walk Bridge. The steel cable stayed bridge provides access across the Dandenong Creek for pedestrians and cyclists since it was built in approximately 1991.
JJR Involvement JJR’s expert structural engineers conducted a Level 3 bridge inspection, including a structural analysis and assessment of the bridge members as per the relevant Australian Standards including:

  • VicRoads Structure Inspection Manual;
  • AS 1170.0 – Structural Design Actions: General Principles;
  • AS 1170.1 – Structural Design Actions: Permanent, Imposed and other Actions;
  • AS 1170.2 – Structural Design Actions: Wind Actions Code;
  • AS 1170.4 – Structural Design Actions: Earthquake Loads Code;
  • AS 4100 – Steel Structures Code; and
  • AS 5100 – Bridge Design.

A structural assessment report was prepared by JJR and submitted to Council, which collated data from the Level 3 bridge inspection, reviewed existing structural drawings provided by Council, created a 3D model of the bridge including structural assessment criteria.
