Aeronautical Risk Assessment for Olympic Dam Airport

Project Aeronautical Risk Assessment for Olympic Dam Airport
Client Jacobs Engineering Group & BHP Billiton
Project Value $50 – $100M
Project Overview Olympic Dam Airport is an airport that serves the Olympic Dam mine in South Australia.

Jacobs engaged JJR to undertake an aeronautical assessment to confirm the airport upgrade required for a Code 3C compliance, allowing up to 100-seater aircraft to operate at the Olympic Dam Airport (ODA).

JJR Involvement The scope of work required for JJR to prepare the aeronautical risk assessment included:

  • Confirm the runway extension length and survey take-off & approach movements for the Olympic Dam Airport (ODA);
  • Outline the impacts of the HV powerline on the airfield upgrade;
  • Determine the minimum distance that infrastructure needs to be relocated to enable compliant operation up to 100-seater aircraft; and
  • Investigate whether the ODA can accommodate the Airbus A320 under payload restrictions.
