Project Overview :
The Pilot Jetty and Emergency Response Jetty are located at the eastern end of the re-entrant basin, adjacent to the tug jetty. This jetty includes 3 no. berthing dolphins and steel / timber superstructure to allow passenger and service traffic to the tugs. The Emergency Response Jetty was built in 1989.
JJR Involvement :
JJR undertook a structural condition assessment and identified various elements of the pilot jetty that needed to be refurbished.
Structural design was conducted using information obtained during the site inspection, the drawings provided by NWS Ports, utilising relevant Australian Standards including;
- AS1170 (Structural Design Actions),
- AS4100 (Steel Structures),
- AS4997 (Guidelines for the Design of Maritime Structures) and
- AS1657 (Fixed Platforms, Walkways, Stairways and Ladders- Design, Construction and Installation).
The following elements have been designed and drawings provided for this scope of the refurbishment of the emergency response jetty:
- A new set of Fibre- reinforced plastic (FRP) Grating stair treads to replace the existing timber treads including any supports required underneath the treads.
- FRP Grating and supports for the triangular section of the jetty deck.
